ANTS

Ants live in colonies and rarely travel alone, so chances are if you see several ants, there are probably more nearby. Ants enter and infest your home in search of food. Ants are also drawn to moisture. Once ants get into your home, it is unlikely that they will leave on their own.

Besides for being annoying, ants cause structural damage. Ants can settle anywhere including in the walls and under the floor. The ants chew through wood without eating it which is why it is common to find sawdust in areas of infestation.

There are many species of ants and they may need different methods of treatment. Getting help from a professional exterminator is the best way to make sure to get the proper treatment that is required. If you think you may have an ant infestation, contact Quality Exterminating today.

COCKROACHES

Cockroaches are one of the most common household pests. They can live for weeks without food or water. Cockroaches prefer to live in the dark so if you see a cockroach during the day, that is usually a sign of infestation. Cockroaches can flatten their bodies to fit into narrow spaces such as behind refrigerators, under stoves, beneath rubber mats, or even inside wall cracks.

Cockroaches reproduce at an alarmingly rapid rate. Cockroach droppings are usually found where there in an infestation. Generally, the amount of droppings seen is an indication of the level of infestation.  An unpleasant odor may be present as well.

Cockroaches can be to blame for asthma and allergies in addition to respiratory problems. They spread diseases by contaminating our living spaces and food sources just by body contact.

Cockroaches are extremely resilient. The best way to get rid of an infestation is to enlist the help of a professional exterminator. If you believe that you have an infestation of cockroaches, call us at Quality Exterminating today.

MOSQUITOES

Mosquitoes are more of a threat to human health than all the other insects around the world. Mosquitoes can transmit serious diseases such as West Nile virus, malaria, and yellow fever.

Mosquitoes breed wherever there is standing water.  Female mosquitoes can lay eggs in places such as tree holes, clogged gutters, trash cans, and any other areas that may form a puddle of water. Any standing water that cannot be removed should be treated to prevent further reproduction.

Mosquito prevention and extermination takes a lot of effort. Our Quality Exterminating technicians use a special treatment that repels mosquitoes and reduce their desire to breed on your land. The treatment is targeted to eliminate existing mosquitoes while preventing future ones.

WATER BUGS

Water bugs are very common in New York City buildings. Water bugs are generally not harmful to humans.

Water bugs prefer damps areas and can hold their breath for a very long time under water. They can be found in areas such as basements, boiler rooms, floor drains, and utility closets. Water bugs can easily enter homes through the pipes of the sewer system. They will often make their way into your home in search of food. Once inside, they find food and are likely to stay.

Water bugs can be found at any time of the year. When they invade a home, they never come alone. They travel in colonies of hundreds. Water bugs can adapt and survive in any condition.

Water bugs tend to be more active in dark places. Sightings of a water bug during the day are usually an indication of a water bug infestation. Water bug droppings, fragments of wings or dead water bugs are usually seen as well.

There are numerous methods to exterminate water bugs but completely getting rid of them is not easy. Our Quality Exterminating professionals can help get the job done efficiently. Contact us today if you suspect an infestation of water bugs.

FLEAS

Fleas are small insects that cannot fly. Fleas are parasites of mammals and birds. This means that all household pets are susceptible. They live by consuming blood from their hosts.

Fleas are dark brown and slightly bigger than a poppyseed. They can be seen with the naked eye but that doesn’t make them easy to catch. Fleas attach themselves to animals and may be brought into your home. This means that
humans are susceptible to fleas as well.

Adult fleas have little legs that help them jump from host to host. Their bodies are covered in tiny little hairs that help them grip onto the chosen animal.

There are four developmental stages of the flea: egg, larvae, pupae, and adult. You must attack the fleas at each stage to successfully free your home of them. This is why it is so difficult to completely exterminate them.

Once an adult flea attaches to a host, it will take a bite and then lay up to 50 eggs per day. Most eggs fall to the floor where they hatch and breed in carpeting, bedding, and dark corners.

If you see only one flea this can mean that there are hundreds of fleas around, but in all different life stages. It can also mean that your pet picked up a single flea from being in contact with another animal.

If you notice your pet scratching, chewing, licking, or biting themselves more than usual, it may be an indication of fleas.

Flea bites on humans may look like a group of raised red bumps similar to bedbug bites. They can also be quite itchy.

It is important to treat every animal in the house for fleas and not just the ones showing symptoms. Treatment for these annoying leeches is pretty simple, but it can be difficult to completely and thoroughly eradicate them from your home.
